AN ALL-DAY WORKSHOP TEACHING BASIC METALSMITHING & SILVERSMITHING TECHNIQUES
FABRICATIONS
COLLAR: First, we’ll create a simple, minimalist sterling collar to wear alone or show off the slides.
SLIDES: Next, we’ll cut out the petal shapes from sterling sheet metal with a jeweler’s saw, texturize them to add depth and dimension, and shape and sculpt them into the floral shapes. You can learn some simple soldering to add ‘buds’ in the center. These slides can be worn on your collar, a chain, over pearls, and more.
EARRINGS: Next, we’ll create smaller dogwoods and add soldered posts.
ADJUSTABLE RING: Now you need one for your fingers! We’ll create a simple, adjustable band and add some dogwoods.
LEARN THE TOOLS: We will use tools for soldering and silversmithing, including a small butane torch and basic bench tools. We keep the setup simple and use tools you can get from Amazon or the hardware store for minimal cost.
SKILLS LEARNED: Basic soldering techniques, simple torching to create balls, jewelry sawing, metal texturing, dapping and shaping the metal, filing, oxidizing, hand finishing, and polishing.
LEARN SAFETY! I’ll teach you how to set up your small silversmithing area as inexpensively as possible. Simply and safely.
WHAT YOU’LL TAKE HOME: one minimalist neck ring/collar, 1-2 dogwood slides, one pair of earrings, and one adjustable ring
