Learn the fundamentals of artisan jewelry and metalsmithing with our artisan jewelry classes. Create rings, pendants, earrings and so much more as you build your designing and making skills. 

These in-person classes give you hands-on experience with an instructor with almost 25 yrs. of jewelry-making experience. Learn to create variations on these basic techniques in order to imagine and design your own unique jewelry creations!

Start with the basics then move on to more advanced wire working and metal smithing techniques. 

Most classes are held in Knoxville & surrounding areas, but I hold classes in homes, apartment clubhouses, offices, galleries, coffee shops, and more! Heck, I'll even teach on the beach, lol.

This workshop is for beginners to learn how to bezel set cabochons and gemstones to create unique and signature pendants.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginners Encouraged, no experience needed.

SKILLS LEARNED: soldering, sawing, filing, textures, bezel setting, bail making, oxidizing, polishing, and finishing. Whew!

What the heck is flux?!  Pickle?! And heaven forbid - fire scale?!

Learn the language, tools, and tips for silversmithing, using a small butane torch and basic tools.  

We’ll go beyond basics by creating a back plate, adding embellishments, bezel setting a stone, and adding a bail.  Suitable for beginners, even if you’ve never soldered before.  

DRESS FOR A MESS!

Wear old clothes or bring an old shirt to wear over your work clothes.  If you have long hair, please wear it up!

Learn the skills to make beautiful wire-wrapped pendants using a few hand tools, jewelry wire, and a focal bead or gemstone.  

We will discuss wire gauges and wire tempers. Learn about tools and their proper use, as well as techniques for oxidizing and polishing your new treasure.

Use your new skills to create sentimental pendants from your memories. Shells or pebbles from a walk on the beach, stones found in the desert or forest, a bead or stone from your grandmother’s jewelry, etc.

Learn the intriguing magic of metal clay. We’ll start with a cold, grey lump of clay and watch it turn into artistic earrings of fine silver.

I’ll teach you how to create pieces in metal clay using a micro torch, so you can easily set up a space in your home without investing in a kiln or expensive equipment.

Wire wrapping is one of the oldest techniques known for crafting handcrafted jewelry. Researchers have found elements of wire wrapped designs in jewelry, breast plate decorations, shields, etc. in ancient pharaohs' tombs and pyramids in Egypt, although there is some evidence that dates wire wrapped jewelry back as far as 1446 B.C.

The concept of this art is to take wire to form the shape, or foundation, of the jewelry, and use the wire itself to wrap around the pieces to hold the structure together. It's always done with only a few basic hand tools. Never any soldering, machines or epoxies. 

This class covers the fundamental skills for creating a basic wire-wrapped bracelet, using ancient skills with only a few jewelry pliers. There are endless variations of this design by mixing smooth or twisted wire and mixing metals. Since you're only using a few hand tools and wire, it's convenient to work almost anywhere!

FABRICATIONS

BUTTERFLY BRACELET: This bracelet will teach you all of the fundamental skills of wire wrapping, Learn the feel, shapes and gauges of different metals, how to control and shape them and the architecture of banding all the pieces together. Learn to size and shape. And of course, adding texture and drama with strategically placed beads.

BUTTERFLY COLLAR: Building on the basic skills from the bracelet, we’ll now go bigger and add new shaping skills. We’ll make our collar a bit adjustable so it will fit just right. You’re gonna love this collar!

LEARN THE TOOLS: wire wrapping requires only a few hand tools, so it’s inexpensive to get started, and convenient to work/carry almost anywhere.

SKILLS LEARNED:  basic wire wrapping, controlling all those wires, twisting wire, sizing, shaping and sculpting wire, finishing and polishing

SKILL LEVEL: No prior experience needed. Beginners are always encouraged!
